Yoann Gourcuff was born in Ploemeur, France, in 1986. He started out his soccer career with FC Lorient, a club managed by his father Christian Gourcuff. He was only 15 when he signed a youth contract with Stade Rennais, followed by a professional contract in 2003. At 19, Yoann left Rennes for AC Milan.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder recently joined Bordeaux for the season, on loan from the Italian club. “We wanted a player who was used to the big time, and we took Yoann because even though he didn’t play much Champions League football with Milan, he gained lots of experience from being surrounded by quality players,” said the Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc.
