The producers of the French show seem to think that over-dramatization is the only way to boost the falling ratings, hence the overly simplified typology of the constestants. 19-year-old Gaëtan (above), for instance, is portrayed as “bad boy with a big heart”. In the video below, he describes a life of hardship in the Parisian suburbs and the tiny 170-square-foot apartment he shares with his mother and his little brother. The Pharrell-wannabe believes that a ‘Star Academy’ victory is a possible way out for him and his family. But his first performance was less than stellar and he could be axed as early as next week.
